Hey — I’m Erika.
I’m an American photographer and digital artist currently living in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
I’m also a wife, mother, teacher, and writer. I’m a lover of coffee, restaurants, dogs, travel, learning, fancy hotels, stand-up comedy, podcasts, and TV.
Most importantly, I love my life.
Now, I don’t want to come across as a yoga-loving, kombucha-drinking hipster straight from the pre-war walk-ups of Williamsburg. I mean, I like these kinds of people very much, but yoga makes my muscles burn too uncomfortably, I’d rather drink a coke (like a regular one, not diet), and I’ll always choose climate control over “historical charm.”
That aside, I will say this: I lead a beautifully creative life that brings me great joy, as well as a greater sense of fulfillment and value. Giving in to the urge to make stuff has made me feel more balanced and content than I ever have in my adult life.
You should try it — making stuff, I mean.
There are loads of people out there with an itch to do creative things (writing, cake decorating, painting, calligraphy, playing an instrument, singing, wood-working, sketching, interior design, stand-up comedy, blogging, roller derby, I mean… all kinds of things) but for a whole list of reasons, they don’t.
That’s where Art Etc. comes in.
I’m here to encourage people (i.e. you, everybody, because I believe that creativity is innate) to give their hankering a chance — to stop thinking “I can’t; I shouldn’t; it’s a waste of time; it’s embarrassing; I’m too old; I’ll never be good at it anyway” and just… try.
I’m here to offer advice, to share the ups and downs of my own creative life (I do have shit days, you know, and I roll my eyes a lot), and to support you in yours.
Hey, by no means am I a life coach, guru, or some other keeper of grand secrets. I’m just a regular woman with two kids, a dog, and an unused gym membership. But in my experience as an artist, ponderer, soul-searcher and do-er, I’ve learned (and continue to learn) a few things about letting go, living a more creative life, and appreciating the value of it all.
That’s who I am, and what this blog is for. Enjoy, and be inspired always.
I’d love to know more about you and what your creative outlet is (or will be)! Leave a comment or get in touch.
