24 Artist Dates

If you’re thinking that I stole “Artist Date” from Julia Cameron, you’re absolutely right. I first completed The Artist’s Way back in 2007 and since then, I’ve periodically continued the ritual of the Artist Date because it is indeed a powerful source of inspiration.

This year, 2018, I’m committing to the Artist Date for the third time in my life! Not weekly, I’m afraid, but twice a month. After each date, I’ll write about it and share the most powerful piece of inspiration I gleaned from that week’s experience.

What is the Artist Date?

If you’ve never read The Artist’s Way, do it! But for now, know that “Artist Date” is simply weekly alone-time with an emphasis on fun. It does not have to be related to the arts. The point is this (from Julia Cameron Live):

Artist Dates fire up the imagination. They spark whimsy. They encourage play. Since art is about the play of ideas, they feed our creative work by replenishing our inner well of images and inspiration.

You simply need to ask yourself, “What sounds fun today?” and then go do it. That’s all — anything goes! You want to visit an art exhibit? Go! You want to go to the trampoline park? Go!

You get the idea. Although, you needn’t leave your home. If baking sounds fun, do it!

I hope you enjoy my series, maybe get an idea or two. And I hope you’ll see the value of going on your own Artist Date! If you decide to do that, tell me about it — I’d love to know what others are seeing and doing!

Here are links to my Artist Dates. I’ll update this list as the year goes on.

  1. Cirque du Soleil, Toruk
  2. Louvre Abu Dhabi (I just went there! Post coming soon!)
